Shlomo Shutan of blessed memory was the founder of Shutan Nurseries. He studied at the Kaduri Agricultural High School and the Faculty of Agriculture in Rehovot, Israel. In the course of his studies, he began working at the Jewish Agency's Agricultural Settlement Department. He worked closely with various nurseries in the Negev area. Later on, he was appointed manager of the Settlement Department's Plugot nursery.
As Shlomo's son, Rafi, had graduated from university, they decided to jointly found a privately owned fruit tree nursery. They set up the nursery in 1978 on private land in Julis, and later moved to it to Rafi's agricultural farm in Moshav Yad Natan in the Lakhish Region.
Shlomo passed away prematurely from a heart attack at the age of 63.
Rafi has followed in his father's footsteps in both agriculture and planting, and has cultivated and expanded Shutan Nurseries.
